Two Day Course Success

Two Day Course Success

Over the weekend of Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June 2013, 34 young goalkeepers took part in a two day goalkeeping course.

The weather over the weekend could have been better for the time of year and the group encountered a couple of periods of rainfall but this did not put the goalkeepers off or the coaching team of Steve Hale, James Whitlock, Mark Scott and Swindon Town Goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell.

The goalkeepers worked on general handling and footwork, shot-stopping from central areas and wide angles, one v ones, dealing with crosses, distribution and some game situation work where we looked at their starting position in relation to the ball and also the type of communication and organisation they should be looking to use. They also finished each day with some fun penalty shoot outs and Goalkeeper Wars which also saw former Swindon Town goalkeeper Mark Scott take on current Swindon Town Goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell at Goalkeeper Wars much to the delight of the watching young goalkeepers!

Each goalkeeper received a certifcate and trophy for taking part in the weekend and there were two further awards:

Charlie Stockley was presented with a free pair of "Pro Grip" goalkeeping gloves for showing a great attitude and helping others. The main award of "Top Goalkeeper" was judged on the 3 "A"s of Attitude, Application and Ability and this went to one of the younger goalkeepers in the whole group, Thomas Norcott much to his surprise and delight judging by the big beaming smile on his face!

The facilities at Beversbrook Sports Facility were excellent and our thanks go to them.

The weekend was a great success all-round with some good feedback received from parents and goalkeepers alike. Numerous photographs were taken during the weekend and they are on the gallery page of this website so have a look at them. These can also please be found on "Steve Hale Goalkeeping School Facebook Page".

It was great to see so many children interested in goalkeeping and they all worked really hard so well done to all goalkeepers that took part!
